10 Fun Facts About Breasts

-

Breasts get a heck of a lot of attention – especially from the opposite sex. However, women often know very little about theirs. Your boobs are more than just two fantastic accessories that go pretty darn well with everything. There are a lot of interesting facts about breasts that you should be aware of…so get to know your breasts better…and have a bit of fun doing so.

  1. Breasts get fatter as you get older. When you’re in your twenties, your mammary glands are comprised of fat, milk glands and collagen. As you get older, the collagen and milk glands get replaced by – you guessed it – more fat. Unfortunately, the fat doesn’t make the breasts larger. It makes them sag more. (Note – don’t think that the extra fat in the breast makes you weigh a lot more. Breast fat doesn’t add that much girth to your bod. An “A” cup weighs in at a quarter of a pound while a “D” cup is about one pound.)
  2. Everyone has some nipple hair. Each woman has between 2-15 dark, straight strands growing. Generally speaking, the darking your skin and hair, the darker the nipple hair. Of course, you can wax or tweeze it if it is bothersome.
  3. The skin surrounding the breasts needs special care. It’s thin. You should moisturize with a firming cream that stimulates collagen and elastin growth as well as UV protection (and retinol). This will help prevent wrinkling. Your nipples can get dry so use an emollient like Vaseline on them daily.
  4. Nipples vary in size as well as shape. They can also point in different directions.
  5. Breasts have their own monthly cycle relative to hormone fluctuations. In the days immediately after your period, they feel the smoothest. (Note – this is the best time for you to take them to your doctor to check any changes in texture, etc.) Midcycle, your nipples are at their most sexually sensitive because of the high estrogen levels. During your period, they might be tender, painful and swollen because progesterone is at its height.
  6. At least 4,000,000 sets of these babies are fake. More than 2 million women in the United States have breast implants. The average age a woman gets a boob job is 34 … 90% wait until after they have children. The majority of women go up about two cup sizes. Of course, implants still carry health risks, but that doesn’t stop 250,000 from going under the knife each and every year.
  7. Breasts can get sunburned even when you have your swimsuit on. Most swimsuit fabric provides pretty flimsy SPF like 5 or 7. Before heading out into the summer sun, it’s best to put on a minimum of an SPF 15 that includes UVA and UVB protection. Otherwise, you could wind up with sun damage.
  8. Your boobs can get blackheads and pimples. The area above and between your breasts is loaded with oil glands. The larger your breasts, the more sweat collects between ’em. This creates an ideal environment for bacteria that causes blemishes. Use an absorbent powder under and between your boobs to keep the skin dry. Clean the area daily (and after a workout). Experts suggest using a toner with salicylic acid. Dump the sweaty sports bra in the laundry bin after you’ve used it too.
  9. Sleeping facedown won’t make your balloons deflate, but it will change their shape over time. The best snooze style for your breasts is on your side with a pillow under them for support.
  10. Cardio workouts like jogging and aerobics can cause your breasts to bounce around. Make sure your sports bras remain elastic enough to minimize the bounce. This will also reduce breast pain. Of course, regularly exercising the pectoral muscles will help perk up your breasts and create the illusion of cleavage. Push-ups and chest presses are great breast enhancing exercises.
